Anello di Barnard
Un'immagine centrata sulla Via Lattea invernale, ripresa dalla fantastica postazione dell'Osservatorio Astrofisico di Roque De Los Muchachos a La Palma (Isole Canarie): l'immagine supergrandangolare abbraccia un campo immenso, che si estende dalle propaggini piu' occidentali del Cane Minore ad est fino al Toro ad ovest, con l'ammasso aperto delle Iadi e la rossa Aldebaran, e giu' fino alle regioni piu' settentrionali del Cane Maggiore a sud, con la luminosissima Sirio. Visibile con un contrasto eccezionale, impossibile ad ottenersi sotto i modesti cieli nostrani, la Via Lattea appare solcata da innumerevoli particolari, miriadi di nubi oscure, nebulose gassose e stelle dagli incredibili colori. L'immagine e' stata registrata su pellicola Kodak PJM-2 ipersensibilizzata nel formato 24x36 mm. con ottica Zeiss-Jena 30 mm. aperta a f/5,6 per un'esposizione di 45 minuti.

An image centered on the winter Milky Way, as seen from the fantastic site of the Astrophisic Observatory of Roque De Los Muchachos (La Palma, Canary Islands): this ultra-wide shot embraces an immense field of view, running from the westernmost regions of Canis Minor at east, to the Taurus at west, with the open cluster of The Iades and the red Aldebaran, down to the northermost regions of Canis Major, with the brightest Sirius. Visible with an exceptional contrast, impossible to obtain here in Italy, the winter Milky Way appears furrowed with many dark clouds, gaseous nebulae and stars by incredible colors. If you wasn't able to count all the features recorded in the former image, don't undertake to count the features recorded here! This picture was taken on a hypered Kodak PJM-2 film in the 24x36 format, with a Zeiss-Jena 30 mm. lens opened at f/5.6 for a 45 minutes exposure.
